Returns from a five-month break after ending his first campaign with a well-supported 2yo MPLTE win at Scottsville, beating Tiger Cody by just under two lengths over 1000m. He had earlier run fourth as a firming favourite on soft ground, so the short-course form has substance. The new 1200m assignment is the main query, but his light record gives him a genuine place chance fresh.

Comes here third-up after finishing second in an FM Benchmark 85 at Vaal, though she was still beaten eight lengths by Playing Trix and had drifted from opening levels. The start prior was also safely held in a small RBH74 field. Her 1200m record and strong jockey-horse statistics keep her in the place discussion, but she has to turn those placings into sharper race pressure.

Has useful old form at this distance, including four wins from 20 attempts, and he has won at this track. Recent evidence is the concern, with a tenth at Scottsville after being beaten seven lengths following a last placing on the Greyville Aw. The class relief helps, but his current form has been too flat to make him a strong betting proposition.

Expected Settling Position: Midfield

Made a fair return when fifth in a Benchmark 82 at Scottsville, beaten just under three lengths behind Follow Your Heart after easing in betting. That followed a Benchmark 82 win at the same venue, where he held off Donquerari by a nose at generous odds. The apprentice claim and new blinkers are positives, and he has enough recent depth to press for a placing.

Returns from a five-week freshening with a fair bit to prove after finishing sixth at this track, beaten just over seven lengths behind The Swan Song, following a second-last over 1400m at this venue. He gets weight relief and has placed four times around 1200m, but being unplaced in seven starts across the past year leaves him needing a clear form turnaround.

Returns from a lengthy spell after winning an MPLTE on Greyville Aw by three lengths as a very short odds-on chance. He was also beaten only a neck at this track the run before, so the early career record is tidy. The issue is the ten-month absence and the jump from maiden-plate form into this deeper Class 4 contest, leaving him with more to prove than the bare form suggests.

Has the 1200m background to keep in mind, with three wins and three placings from 17 starts around the trip, and the apprentice claim is useful. Recent runs are the stumbling block: second last at Scottsville last time after being well beaten at this venue two back. He can improve in a kinder grade, but only appeals as a rough minor chance.

Was disappointing as a heavily backed favourite on Greyville Aw last week, finishing sixth behind B Fiftytwo and beaten just over four lengths over 1000m. His previous second at this track behind Who Blinked was better, even if the margin was four and a half lengths. Back at 1200m with weight relief and a solid past-year record, he can bounce back into the placings.

Expected Settling Position: Off Midfield

Returns from a four-month break after a highly consistent campaign, last seen finishing second in a Benchmark 88 at Vaal when beaten half a length by Gran Canaria. He had won a Benchmark 74 there the run before, scoring from Mount Darwin, and his past 12 months read two wins and two placings from four starts. While 1200m is the caveat, his form standard makes him the horse to beat.

Placed first-up at this track in an Open, finishing third behind Who Blinked and beaten just under five lengths, but he was unwanted in the market and never shaped as the winner. His previous run here over 1400m was similar, finishing sixth by just under five lengths. Weight relief and a sound 1200m record help, though he must lift to trouble the stronger chances.

Has the right track-and-distance credentials, with one win and one placing from six starts at this course and trip, and he was beaten only a neck by The Swan Song at this venue two runs ago when well supported. His latest fifth on Greyville Aw over 1400m was plain, but the return to 1200m and fourth-up fitness are positives. Despite the wide draw, he rates a serious chance.
