AFRICAN WILD DOG (10) sets the standard off a string of placings, most recently second at this track when beaten just under two lengths after being backed as a dominant favourite. His 1000m record is the small caveat, but the overall maiden form is clearly the strongest. VELORIAN KING (6) has upside from a debut sixth at this venue, where he was beaten four and a half lengths at long odds and finished ahead of ITS COMING HOME. ITS COMING HOME (1) was safely held on debut, yet the market support and inside barrier make him a legitimate improver if he has come on during the let-up. FAIR FATE (3) has been unplaced in three starts, but his first-up sixth at this track was respectable enough to give him minor claims with the benefit of that run.

Returns from a five-week let-up after a debut tenth at this track, where he was beaten six and a half lengths behind Stealth but did firm from bigger odds. That market interest gives some confidence there is more to come, and the inside barrier is a useful asset second-up. He has to turn the tables on Velorian King from that meeting, but improvement would put him right in the winning mix.

Makes his debut for a stable with a modest first-starter record, having produced three winners from 48 debut runners. The trainer-sire figures are more encouraging, with 15 placings from 28 runners, but there is no race form to anchor a firm assessment. From barrier two he gets every chance to show natural speed, though stronger exposed claims sit elsewhere.

Back after six weeks since finishing sixth at this track, beaten six and a half lengths by Viva Asterix after starting at big odds. His earlier seventh at Kenilworth reads similarly, so he still has to find a sharper finishing effort. The class drop and recent-form rating help, but an unplaced record from three starts keeps him in the place bracket rather than higher.

Expected Settling Position: Off Midfield

Makes his debut with a solid enough profile but limited hard evidence for this assignment. Greg Ennion has placed five of 16 first starters, while the What A Winter pairing has produced a fair strike-rate across a larger sample. The family offers some winning background, though not enough to offset the lack of exposed race form against sharper prospects.

Back after six weeks following a debut run at this track where he finished last and was well held behind Viva Asterix at long odds. The apprentice claim and class drop are positives on paper, but he now comes to an untried 1000m and the first run left a large gap to bridge. A much cleaner, more competitive effort is required before he can be seriously entertained.

Returns from a five-week let-up after a sound debut sixth at this track, beaten four and a half lengths by Stealth when sent out at long odds. That run rated well for this and he did finish ahead of Its Coming Home, giving him a useful form edge. He is still learning and may be ridden quietly again, but natural improvement second-up makes him a strong winning chance.

Makes his debut after being a 400000 purchase, and there is depth in the family through multiple winning half-siblings. The stable debut record is the dampener, with one placing and no winners from 18 first starters, while the apprentice claim is only a supporting factor. He may have longer-term scope, but this looks a demanding starting point.

Returns from a six-month break after ending last campaign with a last at Kenilworth, beaten seven lengths by Earn The Weekend. His previous eighth there was also safely held after being unwanted in the market, and he is unplaced from two tries around this distance. Blinkers go on first time and the apprentice claim helps, but the race form has to lift markedly.

Makes his debut with the strongest pedigree pointer among the newcomers, being a half-brother to Listed winner Imilenzeyokududuma and other multiple winners. Richard Fourie taking the ride adds further interest, although barrier nine is not ideal and the trainer has minimal first-starter evidence. He profiles as a genuine place hope if forward enough on race day.

Returns from a six-week let-up in outstanding maiden form, having run second at this track when beaten just under two lengths as a dominant favourite after firming sharply. He had also gone down by a nose at Kenilworth the start prior, so the consistency is hard to fault. The 1000m record is the one caution, but Craig Zackey is back aboard and this looks his best chance to break through.

Resumes after five months off following a debut third at Kenilworth, where he was beaten just under six lengths by Reef Runner on soft ground at generous odds. That lone run gives him a base, and the same rider returning is a plus. Barrier 11 is the obvious obstacle first-up, so he shapes more as a placing chance if he can settle and finish off.
