Returns from a two-month freshening after finishing fourth in an MPLTE over 1400m at this track, beaten over 12 lengths as a long-odds chance. He had also been fourth over the same trip the start prior, beaten six lengths after easing near the top of an open market. The class drop and low draw help, and a placing at around 1700m keeps him in the minor mix if he sharpens up.

Expected Settling Position: Off Pace

Comments

Returns from a two-month freshening and reaches the third run of the campaign after a fifth at Turffontein Inside, beaten five lengths in a Mdn over 1450m despite firming from a bigger opening quote. His previous fourth over 1200m was sound enough, and barrier 1 suits his natural speed, but 1700m is new territory. He has the profile to hold a place chance rather than one to take on trust as a winner.

Expected Settling Position: Leader

Comments

Had a plain latest effort when sixth in an MPLTE over 1200m at this track, beaten over 14 lengths after being unwanted in the market. The start prior was better, a third at this venue when beaten two and a half lengths at big odds. The apprentice claim and third-up fitness help, but first try at around 1700m asks him to find a sturdier finish than he showed last time.

Makes his debut with a genuine pedigree angle, being a R700,000 yearling and a full brother to Fire Attack, a five-time winner. The stable's Fire Away runners have produced five wins and 10 placings from 12 starts, while its debut record is solid rather than dominant. Barrier 6 gives him a little to overcome first time out, but his background is strong enough to command respect in this company.

Makes his debut by Gold Standard from Star Jet, but the profile is lighter than the main first-starter in the field. Corrie Lensley is winless from 10 debut runners, with one placing, and full brother Gold Jet has yet to win from seven starts. He may improve with racing experience, but this looks a demanding starting point.

Comments

Comes off the clear standout recent performance, beaten a nose when second in an MPLTE over 2600m at Turffontein Inside after firming from opening levels. The quick back-up and return to 1700m are the queries, but she is third-up now and that latest effort was a sharp response to her earlier fifth at this track. In a race short on winning form, she brings the most convincing recent peak and is the one they have to beat.
