CAPE POINT (5) Tidy run when 3rd last run around here and having second career run. Will be giving the leaders a big start. Worth strong consideration. FUYUNO RAI (8) Tidy effort when 3rd last run at this venue and having second race start. Have to respect the recent Mamoru Tanaka form. Definite claims. MAKKOTO MOODY (1) Placed 2nd last run here and was on debut last time. Gets back and needs luck. Has drawn the rails. Can get the job done. JOSHO ALLEZ (6) In the money when 2nd last time at this track. Won't be far away.

Placed on debut at this track when second to Bellagio Izana over 1300m, beaten two lengths after starting at big odds. She had work to do but knuckled down well, and that late response is a sound platform for a second-up rise in performance. The inside barrier is another positive, while the recent head-to-head line over Fuyuno Rai strengthens her case. With natural improvement, she sets the benchmark.

Was never competitive and was beaten out of sight when last of six behind Yompaku Ikki at this track last start, starting at long odds and offering no clear excuse. His previous fourth behind South One was better, beaten three lengths after settling handy, but he remains unplaced from five starts at around 1300m. Race fitness helps, though the form has to lift sharply.

Has the race fitness to give himself a chance, but the latest form is only fair. He was fifth behind Yompaku Ikki at this track last start, beaten nine and a half lengths, after being safely held, and two back he was well beaten after settling a long way off them. The small positive is a placing at this track and distance, so he profiles as a place hope rather than a strong winning play.

Has shown enough rating-wise to remain in the mix, but her latest two performances were plain. She led before finishing fourth behind Lowen Hearts at this track last start, beaten over 13 lengths, and was never competitive when last the run prior. One placing from six attempts at this track and distance is only a modest return, though this does not look beyond her for a placing if she finishes off better.

Returns from a two-month freshening after a debut third at this track, but that placing needs context because he was tailed off behind Bear Magnum in a small field. He was at generous odds and settled rearward, so the bare placing reads better than the performance. The Shinji Kudo stable is a positive around this venue, yet race improvement is required for him to become more than a place chance.

Made clear progress second start when second to Lowen Hearts at this track, beaten four lengths after being run down late. The concern is that he was a dominant favourite at a very short odds-on quote, so the market expected more, but he still brings one of the stronger recent placings. Now third-up and race fit, he has the right profile to be around the money again.

Worked into the placings last start when second to Three Scarlet at this track, beaten three lengths at generous odds. That was an improvement on her previous fifth behind South One, where she was near the top of betting but faded late after racing prominently. The leading trainer and jockey combination is a genuine plus, although one placing from three runs around 1300m keeps the win case measured.

Was well found on debut at this track and ran third to Bellagio Izana over 1300m, beaten five lengths after sitting close enough but failing to quicken when the race was there to be won. He also finished behind Makkoto Moody, so there is a form turnaround required. Even so, the debut placing gives him a clean platform, and natural improvement for a strong local stable keeps him a genuine winning chance.

Comments

Has been well held in both recent starts at this track, finishing last behind Lowen Hearts when well beaten after having too much ground to make up. The start prior was no better, as he was second last behind Three Scarlet, beaten a long way and unwanted in the market. Unplaced from three starts at this track and distance, he is hard to recommend without major improvement.

Expected Settling Position: Midfield
