Gold Coast Race 2

Neumann Steel (Bm62)

Prize Money: $28,000

LARUSSO (5) earns top billing after a solid fifth here, with the early keenness noted by stewards leaving some scope to settle better. His Warwick third in CL3 grade reads well for this. Has been kept up to the mark with a trial on the Poly 35 days between runs. Can land the winning blow this time. OUR TURN NOW (1) comes through a BM65 third at the Sunny Coast on heavy ground, and gets a 3kg claim while returning to a distance range he enjoys. Genuine threat. VERMILION KIRIN (2) was plain late at Eagle Farm but is eased from mid-week company a third-up lift would put him in the mix. DREAM THINKER (4) has been patchy since resuming but shoulders peaks that are up to the mark. Willing to have another look fourth-up.

Ran a much better race when third in a BM65 at Sunshine Coast last start, beaten just over two lengths by Family Of League on heavy ground after being well back at the turn. That was a solid response to a safely held Quality run at Toowoomba, where he also struck interference in the straight. Proven enough at 1800m to rate a strong winning chance.

Expected Settling Position: Off Midfield

Faded out when eighth in a BM68 at Eagle Farm last start, beaten just over six lengths after being unwanted in the market. He now comes back from mid-week company and the softer set-up helps, while his Kilcoy second two runs ago had more merit after he was steadied near the home turn. Latest fade keeps him more a place hope.

Had genuine excuses when sixth at Gold Coast Poly last start, racing wide throughout and failing to quicken after being near the top of an open market. The start prior he beat Victory Command at this track, finding enough after beginning awkwardly. Strong track-and-distance record gives him clear place appeal.

Was disappointing when last in a BM68 at Eagle Farm, beaten just over nine lengths after settling well back and making no impression. The class relief from mid-week company is important, and his previous BM70 sixth at this venue was more competitive when beaten just over two lengths. Place claims if he rebounds.

Returns from a five-week freshening after finishing fifth at this track, beaten two lengths by All About Artie when keen early but still making ground without threatening. His previous Warwick third in Class 3 grade was strong, beaten just over half a length by So You Can Torque, and he has handled wet ground well. Wet-track record adds confidence.

Worked home soundly for fifth in a BM65 at Gold Coast Poly last start, although he was still beaten just under eight lengths by Power Reece. His better reference is the start prior at this track, where he was slow away and beaten a nose by Tambourine Man in a BM58. More a place chance than a winning push.
